2025 President's Greeting
 

Dear Alumni Band Family,

Welcome to the 57th year of the WVU Alumni Band. It has already been a meaningful and memorable season, and I’m grateful for the continued dedication of our alumni community.

Since spring, our alumni pep band proudly performed at the Morgantown Heart Walk, and I extend sincere thanks to every Alumni Band musician and every member of the Pride who joined us. We also supported the Pride through minicamp meals for percussion and guard and the annual band camp picnic, made possible by our generous donors.

Congratulations to the trumpet section for taking top honors in the section donation challenge. We encourage all other sections to join together next year and try to unseat the brass.

This summer also featured a powerful project led by Al Hall, who conducted oral histories with members and staff who were part of the Pride during 9/11. We deeply appreciate Al and all who shared their stories.

We recently wrapped up our annual Gala–Elimination Dinner, complete with a tailgate theme, great entertainment, a cornhole playoff, and a $1,000 grand prize. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, or supported the event.

Many of our members also traveled abroad for the Alumni Band European Tour in July. Don’t miss the full recap from Director John Hendricks and trip coordinator Jeff Caplinger included in this newsletter.

Looking ahead, we hope to see you at the Eastern Panhandle event at Antietam Winery on September 12, and during Homecoming Weekend, October 16–17, when WVU takes on Cincinnati. We will also perform at the Cancer Walk at Milan Puskar Stadium on October 31, followed by an optional member meal at a local eatery.

My heartfelt thanks go to our Board of Directors, officers, and especially our committees. Their hard work brings all of these events to life. As you join us throughout the year, I encourage you to consider serving on a committee. It’s one of the best ways to stay connected, contribute your talents, and help shape the future of our organization.
